Child Migrant Detention Centers and Family Separation does not reflect Democracy.

Families at the U.S-Mexican Border attempting to cross over into the U.S for a better life are being met with strict resistance. Once crossing over if caught by the U.S government are then detained and oftentimes children are being separated from their parents. Many of these children are only following their parents' leads and doing what they are told. These children do not understand the full ramifications of their parents’ decision. Some of the children crossing the border are being sent alone to escape poverty, drugs, crime, and an overall lack of resources.

The United States is known for enforcing strict immigration policies and has always addressed illegal immigration as an issue that needs to be controlled. The numbers are skyrocketing, but the U.S has failed to find a solution that safely protects these children. News outlets have shown footage of these children sleeping in cages with only foil blankets as coverings. The detention centers are run similar to prisons, and the immigration detention system is failing. The conditions are inhumane and not a solution but are a dismissive action to a crisis. The U.S is meant to be the land of the free, a place where anyone can come to create a better life. These children need their parents, and they need a system and government that is willing to take them in and allow them a fair chance at a better life.

These call-to-action flyers will depict different aspects of what is taking place at the U.S-Mexican border. Each flyer will explain what the problem is with text and images. It will show how American citizens can call for the end of child migrant detainment and separation by calling local congress members and demanding change. People can no longer turn a blind eye to this inhumane tragedy.

Comments

  1. The first thumbnail is the most striking and impactful, the depiction of the ICE officer standing outside the cage doing nothing provokes anger and the inclusion of the stuffed animal inside with the child makes the graphic more emotional as well.
The framing of the second design is very clean and the imagery of the hands reaching for one another is hopeful, although some indication of the issue could be present within the graphic.
Design 3 is very creative and the idea to use tears as text bubbles is unique and interesting.
Overall the elements of design 1 are the most impactful and attention grabbing but the text and slogans of design 2 embody the "call to action" prompt the best.

    Good work!

  2. The first two thumbnails make very bold statements without even reading the words. Your call to action thumbnails graphics provoke the kind of emotions needed to get people to join the fight. Both headers and sub headers in just a few words say what is needed to be said. Thumbnail number 3 is not visually clear, however upon zooming in is equally as impacting. Successfully done.

Support Black Owned Business

The summer of 2020 once again highlighted significant disparities that Black people and other minorities face here in the United States. " In the United States Only 4.3% of the United States' 22.2 million business owners are Black, according to  a February 2020 Brookings Institute report ." This is due to the systemic racist structures within the United States that historically have been weaponized against the Black community. From education to entrepreneurship, it is clear the United States has not done enough to provide equality and equity to Black communities.   It's time to celebrate, embrace, and support the local Black businesses in your area. One might ask why it's necessary or why it even matters? The truth is every dollar that is spent within local businesses provides more economic value to those direct communities. The wealth is spread literally. If the people have the power to be a positive difference within the local or neighboring communities, that...
