The time is now Puerto Rico.

The time is now for Puerto Rico to take autonomy into its hands. Puerto Rico is currently considered a U.S. territory. The U.S controls the politics and economic state of Puerto Rico; the people do not have ownership of their governing system. Puerto Ricans may participate in U.S presidential elections' primary, but they cannot vote in the Presidential elections.

A new bill was proposed to the U.S congress members, by Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nydia Velazquez, and senator Bob Mendezthe Puerto Rico Self-Determination Act of 2020. This bill will "recognize the right of the People of Puerto Rico to call a status convention through which the people would exercise their natural right to self-determination, and to establish a mechanism for congressional consideration of such decision, and for other purposes." Puerto Rico must regain sovereignty to create a society that is equitable and accessible for the people of Puerto Rico. The United States or outside sources that have not understood Puerto Rico's needs cannot continue to make critical decisions for the people.

The call-to-action flyer design will display the Puerto Rican flag and the national colors red, white, and blue. The flyer will also have hands that are breaking free from chains, and within the chains, it will say "The United States of America." The bottom corner will be a graphic reflecting the coqui frog: an animal that Puerto Rico is known for and uses as Puerto Rican symbolism.

The time is now for Puerto Rican liberation and autonomy. The proposed Puerto Rico Self Determination Act of 2020 is the beginning. The bill will only allow for Puerto Ricans to state their opinion on becoming an official state or complete removal as a U.S territory. People of the United States need to call their congress members and advocate for Puerto Rico's self-determination and freedom.

Child Migrant Detention Centers and Family Separation does not reflect Democracy.

Families at the U.S-Mexican Border attempting to cross over into the U.S for a better life are being met with strict resistance. Once crossing over if caught by the U.S government are then detained and oftentimes children are being separated from their parents. Many of these children are only following their parents' leads and doing what they are told. These children do not understand the full ramifications of their parents’ decision. Some of the children crossing the border are being sent alone to escape poverty, drugs, crime, and an overall lack of resources.  The United States is known for enforcing strict immigration policies and has always addressed illegal immigration as an issue that needs to be controlled. The numbers are skyrocketing, but the U.S has failed to find a solution that safely protects these children. News outlets have shown footage of these children sleeping in cages with only foil blankets as coverings. The detention centers are run similar to prisons, ...
